NETKETABi promotes eLearning environments by making e-content and interactive learning resources available to accomodate different learning styles and stimulate learning. Through the device, students are able to explore a variety of learning resources for each subject. Each resource is designed and developed to promote creativity and innovation and put Palestinian youth in a position to lead in the building of their own knowledge and entrepreneurial thinking.
All NETKETABi units include updated content in math, science, chemistry, physics, biology, social studies, computer basics, and Arabic and English languages. This content is made available on and offline, granting students of all ages the ability to access learning opportunities in areas where power and internet are often unreliable.
Through an agreement with the Ministry of Education and with funding from the Paltel Group Foundation, PSD is digitizing Palestinian curriculum textbooks. Textbook content is kept authentic and in-line with instructional design models and is then enriched with interactive multimedia resources and components. Video, audio, animation and simulations help the learners to visualize, hear and interact with material and, thus, explore different learning styles to suit their individual needs.
Khan Academy is an online library of thousands of videos on subjects including math, physics, computer science and economics. These videos, designed as instructional tools for students, are uploaded to YouTube and accessed worldwide. They personalize education and allow students to review basic material and repeat lessons or skip ahead, depending on their learning rates. Through their strategic partnership, PSD and Khan Academy have created the Khan Academy Arabic Channel where 200 videos have been translated and uploaded for access on both the internet and NETKETABi.
Gooru is a search engine for learning that allows users to explore thousands of study guides covering 5th- 12th grade math, science, and history topics. Resources include digital textbooks, animations, instructor videos and much more. Together, PSD and Gooru are developing learning objects around the existing Palestinian school curricula and improving the quality of learning for Palestinian students, grades 5-8, in the areas of math and science.
Teams under the supervision of the Birzeit University develop learning objects for subjects based on grade level. Design-based research is adopted throughout the development of learning. Each unit is developed by 2-3 teachers and 1 MM specialist under the supervision of one instructional designer with overall support from the BZU team.
To achieve the NETKETABi project goals, PSD delivers training programs for grade school students, youth trainers, parents and teachers. The training covers four main topics: familiarity, software, integration of ICT in education, and service learning. It gives students the chance to become familiar with the concept behind NETKETABi, to engage in their communities, and to incorporate the needs of those communities into the education system.
Trainings and activities provide a range of benefits, including career guidance while building the competency of youth and teachers who will work directly with students, parents and other community groups.
TRAINING OF TRAINERS
In order to prepare the teachers of tomorrow and bring youth back to their communities to participate and contribute in the development process, economically, socially and environmentally, PSD partnered with 6 West Bank universities that open their doors and provide PSD with training halls and nominate students as volunteers to help in project outreach and training of school students in their communities. Youth gain knowledge about trainer skills and capabilities, learn how to plan for a training session, and develop interpersonal skills needed to succeed in not only delivering the training, but also improve their employability skills and open doors for the future. Participants study interactive learning methods and how to present theories and concepts through interactive techniques and are expected to be able to develop new training techniques related to NETKETABi concepts and applications.
TRAINING OF STUDENTS
Youth trainers are linked with school students in nearby villages where they provide 10, 3 hour sessions to children. The training creates an innovative environment where students are at the center of the learning process, gain deep familiarity with the device and the concept behind it, and explore new ways of thinking.
TRAINING OF TEACHERS
To prepare schools to implement NETKETABi, PSD provides training to teachers to help them redesign lesson plans focused on children. Methods of instruction and assessment, developing interactive educational environments through the use of technology, and engaging students are at the core of these sessions. These workshops also introduce teachers to the educational content and software in NETKETABi units and the multitude of ways the units can be used to enhance learning both in and out of the classroom.
Two financial options are available for purchase of a NETKETABi: cash and microfinance.
